MADERA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team concluded its 2002-2003 season with the final round of the West Coast Conference Championships Tuesday afternoon at the Riverbend Golf Club in Madera, Calif.

The Broncos fired a final round 326 as a team to conclude the tournament in fifth place with their 54-hole team total of 960. The 960 is 85 strokes better than their total from the 2002 WCC Championships held at the same course, and 30 strokes better than their best 54-hole score this season. They shot a 990 as a team at the Lady Vandal Classic earlier this season.

"Although the fifth place finish would not indicate a successful tournament, we did accomplish something over our two days here," said head coach Polly Schulze. "In the span of one year's time we improved our scoring in the same tournament on the same course by 85 shots. We are definitely not there yet, but we are headed in the right direction."

Courtney Dimpel-Composti and Jessica Lamberty were the highest finishers for the Broncos as they each shot a final round 81 on Tuesday to give them a two-day total of 20-over par, 239, good enough for a tie for 17th place. Nikki Mack also carded a final round 81 to go with her back-to-back 80's in the first two rounds for a final total of 22-over par, 241 and a share of 19th.

Meggie Fagundes and Candice Palmer each shot a final round 83, moving Fagundes' tournament total to 27-over par and Palmer to 36-over par. Fagundes finished 22nd with her 246 while Palmer's score totaled 255, placing her 24th.

Pepperdine won the team championship with their 869 total, 10 strokes better than San Francisco. Gonzaga finished third with their team total of 929, followed by Portland at 939.

Carolina Llana of Pepperdine took home Medalist Honors with her three-round total of 8-uncer par, 211, followed by teammate Lindsey Wright who finished the tournament at 1-under par.
