MOSCOW, Idaho - The Santa Clara University women's golf team entered the final round in a tie for seventh place and finished the day in a tie for seventh place after firing a team-best 327 at the Lady Vandal Fall Invitational hosted by the University of Idaho.

The Broncos battled through 40 degree weather and windy conditions on day one, and on day two things weren't much better as the temperature just hit 50 but had no wind to speak of at the University of Idaho Golf Course.

The 327 as a team was two strokes lower than the 329 the Broncos posted in round two and seven strokes fewer than they posted in round one. The significance of that for the Broncos is that they broke 340 as a team in all three rounds, something they were only able to do twice in 16 rounds during the 2001 season.

"We accomplished most everything we set out to do this weekend," said head coach Polly Schulze. "We finished higher than the teams we set out to beat and we improved our scores each round which is not very easy to do when playing 54 holes in a span of 27 hours."

Courtney Dimpel-Composti was the top finisher for the Broncos after firing a final round score of 5-over par, 77. Her three-round total was 242 which finished her in a tie for 21st. Jessica Lamberty finished tied for 29th after posting a two-day total of 245 that was capped off by a final round 80.

Deanna Slaman and Candice Palmer each fired a final round 85, with Palmer finishing in a tie for 40th and Palmer in a tie for 62nd after completing the tournament with their three-round totals of 248 and 256, respectively. Meggie Fagundes finished 69th with a 261 total after shooting an 86 on Tuesday.

The Broncos also had an individual playing in the tournament, freshman Nikki Mack shot rounds of 95, 94 and 87 to finish 79th with her 276 total.

"We want to carry some of the momentum that we built up this week into the Boise State tournament," said Schulze. "Our team is committed to getting better each time out and we think we had a great start to our season over the last two days."

Santa Clara will return to action on October 21-22 at the Boise State Bronco Fall Classic. Last season the Broncos finished 16th after they followed their 314 on day one with a 345 on day two.
