Ueoka Leads After Day One At Fresno State Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - Santa Clara women's golf sophomore Miki Ueoka sits in first place at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic after the first two rounds on Monday.

Ueoka compiled two of the best rounds ever by a Bronco. She fired a tournament low round of 68 in the first round and followed that with a 69 in the second round. She is seven-under par 137 heading into the final 18 on Tuesday.

Erin Sullivan rattled off a 77 (+5) in the first round and followed that with a round of 81 to end the day tied for 46th place. Sophomore Katie Sharpe and junior Jamie Nonaka both came in with a 79 (+7) after the first 18. Sharpe also shot an 81 in the second round to tie for 52nd. Nonaka shot an 83 to tie for 58th place. Freshman Tammy Surtees was the final Bronco competitor. She rebounded from an 84 (+12) in the first round with a 77 (+5) in the second round to tie for 54th place.

As a team, Santa Clara produced to solid rounds under 310. In the first round the Broncos shot 303 and in the second round, they went 308. SCU is tied for seventh place with Sacramento State, Portland State and Fresno State.

The Broncos conclude action at the 2009 Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the Copper River Country Club.
