Women's Golf Places 5 on NGCA Scholar-Athlete Team

July 2, 2008

The Santa Clara women's golf team is proud to announce five members of this year's team have been named to the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-Scholar Student-Athlete Team. In the last three years, Santa Clara has had 14 student-athletes named to the All-Scholar Student-Athlete Team. To receive this award a student athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher for the entirety of their collegiate career and play in at least 50% of the team's competitions for the year.

The NGCA, in two weeks, will also announce the top 25 teams with the highest GPA for the 2007-08 year and with a team GPA of 3.66 women's golf is hopeful that they will be ranked in the top 25 if not the top 10 nationally. The women were No. 9 nationally last year.

The five Broncos on the 2007-08 NGCA All-Scholar Student-Athlete Team include:

Jenny Nelson

Hilaire Fouts

Erin Sullivan

Jamie Nonaka

Miki Ueoka

"To have over half of our team be awarded this prestigious honor is of great pride to us. For a small team like ours with a roster of 8-9 women to have placed 14 on the list in the last three years - it is quite an accomplishment," said Bronco head coach Polly Schulze. "I am so proud of my players for being so committed and so dedicated to their academics while at the same time putting in so much time and effort to golf. It says a lot about their character and the pride they glean from being named All-Scholar Student Athletes."
