Boise, Idaho -- The Santa Clara women's golf team finished their first tournament of the year at the Boise State Bronco Invitational with a 7th place finish in a 14 team field. The conditions were abysmal this week, especially in the final round where wind gusts exceeded 50 mph. The Broncos were led by freshman Miki Ueoka, who shot a final round 82 to finish the tournament tied for 7th place at +25 in her first collegiate tournament.
Sophomore Jamie Nonaka and senior Corey Utsurogi, the only veteran players in the tournament, finished second and third on the team respectively. Nonaka (+38) shot a final round 92 and finished tied for 30th. Utsurogi (+39) shot a 94 and finisher her tournament in 35th place.
Freshman Katie Sharpe and sophomore Katherine Suarez, also playing in their first collegiate tournament, rounded out Santa Clara's field. Sharpe (+44) was the fourth and final scorer for the Broncos, shooting a final round 83 which was a significant improvement from her second round when most players on the course today saw their scores go up. Suarez ended up with a 89 today, and +47 for the tournament.
The Broncos next event is in three weeks at the Kent Youel Invitational in Hawaii on October 30th.
