Santa Clara in 5th Place After First Round at Lady Braveheart

Feb. 11, 2008

Beaumont, Calif.-- The Santa Clara women's golf team is back in action at the Lady Braveheart Invitational in Beaumont Calif. Freshman Miki Ueoka posted a first round 73, one shot off the lead, en route to leading the Broncos to a team score of 325, good for 5th place.

Also for Santa Clara, Corey Utsurogi posted a first round 82, Katie Sharpe an 84, Hilaire Fouts an 86, and Jamie Nonaka with an 87.

"The course played really tough today," said head coach Polly Schulze. "The scores were higher all around. We played third here the past few years and we're looking forward to playing better and moving up to place."

Freshman sensation Ueoka has found herself in this position once before when she was all alone in second place after the first day of the Cal Poly Invitational in the final tournament of the fall. She finished with a final round of 75 and took home a second place finish.

"We're really looking forward to a possible run towards a win for her," said Schulze.

The Broncos will tee off tomorrow morning for the second and final round.
