Women's Golf Signs Two New Recruits

Nov. 15, 2007

The women's golf team got two new additions to the team this week, as they signed Tamara Surtees and Meaghan Kari to the squad.

A native of Waikoloa, Hawaii, Surtees hails from Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Kamuela, Hawaii. A four year player on the varsity golf team, she also played varsity softball for two years as well as junior varsity basketball for one. Surtees placed third in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation tournament and recorded a sixth place finish in the Hawaii High School State Championship.

Kari attended Windsor High School in Windsor, California where she played on the golf team and was also a part of the track and field team. She was named the All-Empire co-player of the year twice, named all-league three times, and was the four-time Windsor High School MVP as she led her team to two undefeated seasons and four North Coast Sectional appearances in four year.

"Both Tammy and Meaghan truly embody the meaning of what being a Bronco means. Both girls are super talented athletes but more importantly they are of quality character and they are young women who will add to the style and class that already exists on our women's golf team," said head coach Polly Schulze. "I was able to watch both Tammy and Meaghan play competitively over the summer and I am impressed with how they handle themselves in competition. They are both extremely composed and have great course management skills. I am looking forward to helping them to achieve an even higher level of success with their games. I am thrilled they have chosen to play their collegiate golf at Santa Clara and I know that they will help us to further the success of our program."
