Jennifer Sun Earns Second at Golf Tournament

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Santa Clara University women's golfer, Jennifer Sun finished in second place at the Santa Cruz City Amateur this past weekend. Sun finished the tournament, which was hosted at the DeLaveaga Golf Club, with scores of 78 and 74.

"I am very proud of the way Jenn stay composed when she faced some difficulties," said head coach Polly Schulze. "She is definitely ready to start the fall season.

The Santa Clara senior played strong throughout the tournament, especially in the first nine holes. She did have some trouble at points, but was able to bounce back to birdie on her last hole to beat Bryana Gregory of UC Davis by one shot, to earn a second place finish.

"I had some difficulties at points in the tournament, but was able to fight my way through it," Sun said. "Participating in this tournament makes me more confident going into this season, and I know that Corey (Utsurogi) and Erin (Sullivan) won their tournaments too. Overall I think that we all are getting good practice to be successful this season."

Fellow Santa Clara women's golfer Hilaire Fouts also participated in the tournament. She is now preparing to participate in the Sacramento County Fair Championship on Sept. 1st and 2nd in Sacramento, California.

As for the Santa Clara season, the women will tee off in Boise, Idaho at the Boise State Bronco Invitational on Oct. 8.
