Ueoka Advances To Match Play; Falls In First Round At Women's Pub Links

DEVENS, Mass. - Santa Clara women's golfer Miki Ueoka finished in the top-64 of stroke play to advance to the championship bracket of the 33rd U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship at Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, Mass. However, her road to the championship was cut short as she was defeated in the first round by Cydney Clanton of Concord, N.C. by two strokes.

Ueoka tied for 51st in stroke play with a final score of 150 (77-73), and was paired with Clanton, who finished tied for 8th with a score of 142 (69-73).

Clanton maintained at least a one-stroke advantage over the Bronco for the majority of the round of 18 until Ueoka fired an eagle on the 15th hole and a birdie on the 16th hole to even the score. However, Clanton ended the last two holes with an even par and a birdie, while Ueoka shot one-over and an even par. Clanton finished even-par 72, while Ueoka was two-over 74.

Clanton moves on to the Round of 32, which will take place on Thursday, June 25.

Ueoka medaled at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Sectional Qualifier in late May at the Wailua Golf Course in Wailua, Hawaii. The top three advanced to stroke play. The All-WCC honoree fired a five-under par 67 in the second round to finish with top honors and a final score of 141 (-3).
