FRESNO, Calif. - A heavy favorite going into the 2009 Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic, sophomore Miki Ueoka earned her second career individual title as she finished seven-under par 209 (68-69-72) and posted the two best rounds ever by a Broncos on the first day. In the third in final round, she was an even 72.

"It was a really tough field and even though I knew I had the lead, I knew I had to keep playing my best to stay in it," said Ueoka. "I did not expect to hold the lead the whole time. It was surprising."

As a team, Santa Clara shot 932 and tied for ninth place with Portland State. The Broncos finished ahead of tough competitors like Hawaii, Boise State and West Coast Conference foe Gonzaga. No. 21 UC Irvine edged No. 29 San Francisco for the team crown. The Anteaters posted an 891 (+27) final score, while the Dons compiled an 892 (+28) total score.

Junior Erin Sullivan finished tied for 51st with a score of 240 (77-81-82), while freshman Tammy Surtees was two strokes behind with a 242 (84-77-81). Sophomore Katie Sharpe took 60th after finishing with a 246 (79-81-86) and junior Jamie Nonaka rounded out the Bronco competitors with a 250 (79-83-88) and a 64th place finished.
