Women's Golfer Qualifies for U.S. Women's Open Championship

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Claire Choi of Santa Clara women's golf has qualified for the U.S. Women's Open Championship, which will be held next month in San Francisco.

Choi, a junior, fired a 4-over-par 144 on Monday, to claim one of the two spots from the 36-hole USGA Championship sectional qualifier played at Oahu Country Club in Oahu, Hawai'i.

After an opening-round 75 had her in a tie for fifth place in the 40-golfer field, Choi carded a 1-under 69 over the final 18 holes to win by two shots over Tsz Ching Chan.

Despite windy and rainy conditions, Choi, who hails from Honolulu, closed with a flourish by going 2-under on her final four holes.

The championship will be held June 3-6 at The Olympic Club.
