Sand Volleyball Moves Up To No. 15, Hosts San Jose State Thursday At 3:30 PM

After a successful weekend, which was capped with a 3-2 win over then-No. 7 Saint Mary's, Santa Clara's sand volleyball team moved up three notches to No. 15 in this week's national poll by DiG magazine.

The Broncos, 2-1, will host San Jose State on Thurs., March 12 at 3:30 pm at Los Gatos High School. The Broncos will then take a couple weeks off from competition for final exams.

"We are looking forward to hosting San Jose State. The girls were itching to compete this past weekend and we still have that edge going to into Thursday's match," said head sand coach Aaron Mansfield.

The team will take off Monday and Tuesday before getting back in the sand on Wednesday for practice.  "Wednesday we will look to get some quality touches and pin point some areas that each team needs to focus on for their match on Thursday," added Mansfield. "We can't wait to get back in the sand with this group!"

Last weekend the Broncos defeated USF 3-2, lost to then-No. 12 Stanford 2-3 before defeating then-No. 7 Saint Mary's 3-2.

Also playing in a pairs competition at Stanford, Santa Clara's No. 5 team posted a 5-1 record.  Kaity Edwards and Mary Shepherd lost in the finals to Stanford.

In its next competition, Santa Clara will play at the Santa Cruz Duals March 28-29.  Also playing down in Santa Cruz will be USF, Cal, No. 1 Hawaii, Cal Poly and CSU Bakersfield.  In the latest poll CSU Bakersfield received votes.
