Sabrina Clayton on Sand Season So Far

Sabrina Clayton on Sand Season So Far

Sophomore Sabrina Clayton (SC) reflects on the sand season so far and shares how the sand season is helping her prepare for the indoor season in the fall.

SCU: What is your favorite professional sports team?

SC: Giants baseball!

SCU: What kind of music do you like?

SC: I love country music. My favorite country band is Florida Georgia Line. I saw them in concert last summer at Shoreline.

SCU: What has been your favorite match-up so far this sand season?

SC: My favorite match-up this season was against the Stanford 1's team. We won in three games, but every point was a fight. It was a great win!

SCU: Your sand partner is Danielle Rottman.  What is the dynamic between you and your sand partner like?

SC: Dani and I have opposite personalities on the court, but we help balance each other out. She is very fast-paced and I am a little slower. She helps me to pick up my pace and be more aggressive and I help her to relax more and to slow her mind down. We make a great pair!

SCU: What was your mentality going into this weekend?

SC: I had the mentality that Dani and I would compete with anyone we played against. I worked hard to have the same mindset throughout the weekend no matter what team was on the other side of the net.

SCU: What was your favorite part about this weekend?

SC: My favorite part of the weekend was beating LMU. It was very close, but we played our game and worked hard for every single point in order to pull out the win.

SCU: What are you working on in the off-season to help prepare for indoor in the fall?

SC: I want to continue to improve my serve by having better control over where I place it. I am also working on keeping a good pace on the ball. I work a lot on passing and eye work for defense. I am learning to have a better mental game as well. The sand season is teaching me to control my emotions because there are only two of us on the court. All of these things will definitely transfer to my indoor game in the fall.
