April 1, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Santa Clara women's tennis team earned their seventh straight win today after defeating Utah State 6-1 at Degheri Tennis Center. The Broncos improve to 12-4 on the season and 3-2 in the West Coast Conference.

Santa Clara came out strong in doubles play, defeating Utah State at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions to earn the doubles point.

In singles, freshmen Kelly Lamble and Alex Zaniewski fought hard in their close matches to earn their wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions.

Utah State earned their only win of the day at the No. 3 singles position, with Kristina Voytsekhovich defeating SCU's Kacie Wagner in a close 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 match.

"Today was a good win for us," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell. "We had some close matches at the top but we prevailed. We'll use today's win as momentum for tomorrow's match against Idaho."
