Women's Tennis Freshmen Pick Up WCC Accolades

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Santa Clara women's tennis team has added another accomplishment to their already impressive season with the announcement that all four freshmen on the team had received post-season honors from the West Coast Conference.

Freshman Alex Zaniewski, a native of London, England, was named to the All-WCC Second Team Singles. Zaniewski went 11-9 during the regular season in singles play at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions.

"We're really proud of Alex," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell. "She had a great year and was also nominated for WCC Freshman of the Year. She added a new level of competitiveness to our team and we're very happy and excited for her."

The remaining freshmen on the squad were also recognized for their hard work on the court. Kelly Lamble received an Honorable Mention for her strong 12-9 performance in singles play at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles position.

Zaniewski and Lamble were also recognized for their performances in doubles play. Zaniewski and Jessica Agra received an Honorable Mention for their 7-8 record, which included a big upset win against Stanford's No. 46-ranked Mallory Burdette and Stacey Tan on Apr. 15.

Lamble and Maggie McGeorge were recognized with Honorable Mentions for their doubles play at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions. Lamble and McGeorge went 15-4 during the regular season.

"Our team had a great year for being so young this year," said Cabell. "I'm very proud of the team and our program and things are only going to get better."
