Women's Tennis Ends Regular Season With Win Over USF

April 18, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Santa Clara women's tennis team earned their final win of the season today, defeating San Francisco 4-3 at Degheri Tennis Center. The Broncos finish their regular season with an impressive 14-7 record overall and 4-2 in the West Coast Conference.

Santa Clara started off the day with high energy, defeating USF at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to earn the doubles point for the day. "Winning the doubles point gave us a lot of good energy for the singles play," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell.

After dropping the first singles match, freshman Kelly Lamble rebounded to defeat Julia Wartenburger in a 7-5, 6-2 set. Fellow freshmen Maggie McGeorge and Jessica Agra picked up the final two wins to clinch the win for the Broncos.

"We've been looking forward to this match all season so it's great to end it with a win," said Cabell. We played really well today and it feels great to be 4-2 in the WCC."

Santa Clara will travel to San Diego to participate in the WCC tournament from April 23-25. Check back here for updates throughout the tournament.
