Women’s Tennis Heads to Stanford for ITA Northwest Regional Championships

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After an open week without tournament play, the Santa Clara women's tennis will get back to competition this week at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships in nearby Stanford University.  The five-day tournament starts on Friday at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

"This is the biggest tournament of the fall for us because all the teams in the west region play and if you do really well, you could qualify for the national championship.  So especially our best players have that in their sights," said Broncos head coach Ben Cabell.  "There will be a bunch of WCC and Pac-12 teams so the competition will be very high."

The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country.  In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.

The full nine-member squad is expected to participate in the tournament.
