2010 Cross Country Season Review

Three of Santa Clara's cross country runners were named All-WCC in 2010. On the men's side Ben Demaree and Austin Jones were honored and on the women's side Stephanie Wilson was the lone female Bronco runner to be honored.

The Bronco men placed third at the WCC Championship with 96 points. Third place was the highest placing for the team since 2007. Austin Jones finished 11th overall and first for Santa Clara with a time of 25:37. Just seconds behind was Ben Demaree who finished 13th overall with a time of 25:44. Kevin Oliver (17th overall, 26:04), Luca Signore (26:07) and Matt Savage (26:33) rounded out the top five for the Broncos.

On the women's side, the Broncos placed fourth with 117 points. Stephanie Wilson led the Broncos with a time of 21:31, good for eighth overall. Other notable Bronco finishes were Erin Hicks (17th overall, 21:54), Erin McCarthy (26th, 22:33), Carey Parker (32nd, 22:53), Meghan McNamara (34th, 23:00), Mary Reynolds (35th, 23:01) and Allie Sibole (41st, 23:21).

Several Santa Clara runners received fall recognition from the West Coast Conference for their outstanding achievement in the classroom. On the men's side Austin Jones (3.84, engineering), Kevin Oliver (3.94, biology), Matt Savage (3.86, undeclared) and Marcos Hinjosa (honorable mention) were honored on the men's side while Stephanie Wilson (3.90, English), Meghan McNamara (honorable mention), Melissa Conlin (honorable mention) and Mary Reynolds (honorable mention) were honored on the women's side.

Two Broncos also earned Capital-One Academic All-District honors in 2011. Wilson was named first team with a 3.91 GPA as an English major. She was the only Bronco women's runner named. Oliver, second team, the only Bronco men's runner named, has a 3.95 GPA as an economics major.

In addition, Wilson is also receiving the Saint Clare Medal at Santa Clara's graduation on June 11, which is given "to the female graduate judged outstanding in academic performance, personal character, school activities, and constructive contribution to the University by the faculty and the provost."

Chris Mosier, the Santa Clara University Student Body President, cross country team captain, SAAC leader, Ruff Rider enthusiast and frequent community service volunteer, recently was awarded the West Coast Conference Post-Graduate Scholarship. Mosier graduated on Saturday, June 11 and plans to attend Santa Clara Law School in the fall.
