About The Stephen C. And Patricia A. Schott Athletic Excellence Center
Introducing the home of the next generation of Olympians, All-Americans, World Champions and Hall of Fame athletes from Santa Clara University. Made possible by lead funding of $15 million from Stephen C. ’60 and Patricia A. Schott, and $10 million from Mary ’84 and Mark Stevens, the Stephen C. and Patricia A. Schott Athletic Excellence Center is a state-of-the-art facility for Bronco student-athletes that broke ground in April 2019 and was envisioned to open in the summer of 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed construction and completion is now expected by the end of September.
The $37 million, 50,000-square-foot building, which was announced in November 2018, and approved by the school's Board of Trustees in February 2019, will provide dedicated space to work out, train, practice, eat and study together— while also opening up much-needed facility options for events and for all students participating in club and intramural sports. The two-story facility will feature the 4,200-square-foot Stevens Academic Center, the 9,000-square-foot Bronco Bench Foundation Sports Performance Center, an 8,000-square-foot sports medicine center, the William J. and Pamela G. Connolly Fuel Station (nutrition center) and two practice gymnasiums - Dick Davey Court and Carroll Williams Court.
The most recent benchmark in the construction of the facility was the Beam Signing/Topping Off Ceremony in October 2019. The facility structure is currently nearing completion, while interior finishing will come next. So far, $36 million has been committed (this number includes a $1 million operating endowment) by nearly 150 donors to make this facility a reality.

Rambis Family Gymnasium (Carroll Williams Court)
John and Timi Sobrato Gymnasium will house an NCAA regulation basketball court named after legendary Bronco men's basketball coach Dick Davey, with additional court space for individual skill work without impacting the use of the court. This practice court will be known as the “classroom” for our men’s and women’s basketball programs. John and Timi Sobrato Gymnasium will be offered to Campus Recreation during specified night hours for their programming needs such as intramural basketball, as well as campus purposes such as Preview Days and Grand Reunion. Rambis Family Gymnasium will house a NCAA regulation basketball court named after legendary Bronco men's basketball coach and athletic director Carroll Williams, along with 6 fixed side baskets for skill work. Volleyball courts can also be accommodated in both practice facilities. Outside of intercollegiate team practices, Sports Performance will use this court space for performance training our intercollegiate programs. The combined area of both practice courts is 18,000 sq ft. |

William J. and Pamela G. Connolly Fuel Station
The Connolly Fueling Station (approximately 1,200 square feet) will provide supplemental nutrition space for our Athletics staff to adequately fuel our student-athletes. This space is crucial to allowing our student-athletes to maintain a healthy student-athlete experience at SCU while managing their rigorous schedules. |
