Facchino spent the 2003-04 season as the assistant varsity coach before serving as head coach of the women's novice crew in 2004-05. In 2006, Facchino led the women's crew team to their best season ever, including a fourth place finish at the WCC Championships and a semifinal appearance at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia. 2006 marked the first time in Santa Clara history that the women's crew team reached the semifinals of that prestigious regatta. Three rowers, Shannon Cosentino-Rush, Natasha Lindstrom, and Katrina Ostertag, also were named National Scholar Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. As the novice crew head coach, Facchino coached the women's boat to a 9th place finish at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships, their highest finish in recent history. Prior to arriving on the Mission Campus, Facchino served for two years at his alma mater, UC Davis, as an assistant on the varsity men's crew staff and then as head coach of the novice crew. In the '98-99 season his novice crew won the WIRA Championships and placed 4th at the Pac-10 Championships. The previous season, Facchino guided the varsity lightweight boat to the Pacific Coast Rowing Championship. Facchino rowed for four years on the Varsity Lightweight boat at UC Davis. In his junior and senior years the varsity lightweight boat won the PCR Championship, beginning what would become a six-year title run for the Aggies.
