Jen Deering was hired in August 2019 and is in her fourth year as an assistant coach for softball.



Before coming to Santa Clara, Deering was the head varsity softball coach at Piedmont High School for seven years. While there, the team was league champions in 2017 and '18 and had the league MVP each year, both pitchers.



She also has experience at the DI level as the top assistant at Boston University from 2006-09. At Boston, Deering was responsible for evaluating talent and the recruitment of athletes while also working with the pitchers.



The Terriers won the America East regular season title in 2007 and the America East Tournament title in 2009 while going 2-2 in regional play in 2009. Junior pitcher Cassidi Hardy named Second-team All-Conference, First-team All-Region, MVP and All-Tournament team of America East Tournament and the team posted the best ERA in the league (2.01). Her first official recruiting class included America East Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie team selection Emily Roesch, and All-Rookie team selection Erica Casacci.



From 2009-10, Deering was the head coach at Chabot college.Prior to that, she was a volunteer pitching coach for the New England Riptide where she worked with former All-American pitchers Jocelyn Forest, Erica Beach, Eileen Canney, and Danielle Henderson.



Deering also has experience working with the Oakland Vipers, an elite club team, from 2016 until now and as a private pitching instructor and strength and nutrition coach from 2003 until present.



She graduated from Cal in 2003 with a B.A. in American Studies and a minor in LGBT Studies. She has an M.A. in Education from Boston that she completed in 2009.



While with the Golden Bears, Deering played both softball and women's basketball. She was a part of the Bears lone national title team in softball in 2002.

She lives in Hayward with her daughter, Axelea.
