Amy Burgin was named Santa Clara University’s
women’s water polo’s volunteer assistant coach in
preparation for the Broncos’ 2011-12 season. Burgin has been
a proven leader and mentor for top-level club teams, while also
currently coaching with the USAWP Olympic Development Program.
As a player, Burgin played her collegiate water polo at Michigan
after starring at San Ramon Valley High School in Danville, Calif.
Over three seasons, Burgin played in 37 games, scoring 23 goals for
the Wolverines. During her junior campaign she scored a career-best
10 goals and amassed four assists. In her sophomore year she played
13 games and totaled 8 goals and two assists.
During time at Michigan she began coaching during her summers. She
got her first coaching opportunity with the women’s Golden
Bear club team in 2002. After she graduated in 2006 she began
coaching the Diablo club team from 2007-09. Meanwhile, she was
named Carondelet High School’s head coach for varsity water
polo, spending two seasons at the helm.
At the same time she was at Cardonolet, Burgin became involved
with the USWP Olympic Development Program in 2008. She continues to
coach with the USAWP, and the 2012-13 season marks her 5th year
with its ODP program. Additionally, she has gained valuable
coaching experience as an assistant for two seasons at Monte Vista
High School during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
Burgin is currently seeking her teaching credential from Santa
Clara University and teaches seventh grade math and science at St.
Isidore School in Danville, Calif.
