The Bronco track teams faced solid competition Saturday in San Francisco at the Johnny Mathis Invitational, while also dealing with temperatures in the mid 40's and steady rain.  Senior Erin McCarthy crossed the 800m finish line in school-record time as well.

"While the conditions were less than ideal, I thought we accomplished what we needed to today. For the most part, everyone was very competitive in their heat and were focused on what they needed to do for the highest finish possible," said Bronco head coach Felipe Montoro. "Erin McCarthy continues to impress; and Hayley Ney and Erin Hartwig also ran very good races today."

Ney led the Bronco women in the 1500m, running 4:44.93. Freshman Mary Kriege also ran well finishing in 4:56.85. Senior Nicole Giove ran 5:00.81 and Sophomore Kayla Germany ran 5:01.12, both competed well in their heat.

Senior Richard Zhu led the way for the Bronco men, running 4:00.10. Senior Austin Jones ran 4:02.28 and fellow senior Chris Sampson was next across the line for the Broncos in 4:06.21.

Erin McCarthy dominated the women's 800m breaking her own school record from 2010 in the process by the slimmest of margins, just five one hundreths of a second. McCarthy used a strong final 200m to pull away from Cal's Taylor Lawson and won in 2:14.81 to Lawson's 2:16.01.

Also running well in the women's 800m was sophomore Allie Sibole as Sibole ran 2:18.23 for the seventh overall and Jenn Nakamura ran 2:21.36 for ninth. Junior Erin Hartwig won the second heat by nearly two seconds, running 2:21.64.

Zhu doubled back from the 1500m to run 1:59.08 in the 800m, leading the Bronco men in that event.

The Bronco Track team returns to action next Saturday at the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Fresno State.
