Kyle DeMerritt Named Louisville Slugger's Freshman All-American

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Freshman 2B/3B Kyle DeMerritt was named to the Louisville Slugger's Freshman All-American Team on June 8, 2011. The All-American honor was DeMerritt's second post-season award; he was named to West Coast Conference's All-Freshman team earlier this month. DeMerritt is the fifth Santa Clara player to be honored as a Freshman All-American since 2003.

DeMerritt had a stellar rookie campaign, hitting .280 on the season. He posted an on-base percentage of .363, while hitting eight doubles, 29 runs scored and 27 RBI. Defensively, he was a key infielder for Santa Clara. Primarily a third baseman, DeMerritt moved to second late in the season and also saw playing time at first base.

"I just want to say thank you to all the people who helped get me here," said DeMerritt. "My goal for the season was to be an everyday starter and anything after that is a plus."

DeMerritt will play in the top-notch Northwoods Summer League this summer as he prepares for his sophomore season on the Mission Campus. He will play for the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods League.

LHP Paul Paez and 3B Kris Bryant of San Diego and LHP/INF Marco Gonzalez of Gonzaga were the other WCC players receiving the honor.
