SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the sixth member of the 2021 recruiting class, Johnny Tarantino, a multi-sport athlete from Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, California.

"I chose Santa Clara because I felt an instant connection with the coaches and wanted to join a program that continues to get better each year," said Tarantino.  "Coach Filter and the rest of his staff have created an environment where I know I can develop and thrive as a player. I was also impressed with the campus, especially the new state of the art Athletic Excellence Center.  Santa Clara offers a first-class education, which will prepare me well for the future.  Staying in my hometown is a big plus too, and I am very excited to have family out at Schott Stadium."

The left-handed hitting outfielder had a .348/.375/.391 slash line during his sophomore season.  While his junior campaign was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was named Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason High Honorable Mention in the spring of 2020 and played on the Detroit Tigers Scout Team.

The 6-foot-1 Tarantino also played wide receiver for Saint Francis High where he averaged 13.8 yards per catch during the 2019 season.

"Johnny is a dual-sport athlete and we truly love the athleticism he brings with his left-handed swing," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter.  "Johnny also has been playing for Trosky National who continues to develop elite talent.  Johnny is a fast twitched left-handed outfielder who we expect to patrol the outfield at Schott Stadium over the next couple of years."
