Timely Hitting Keys Baseball’s 10-9 Win Over No. 21 Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Santa Clara baseball had eight two-out RBIs and Cole Kitchen tossed 3 2/3 innings in relief to key the team to a 10-9 win over No. 21 Oregon State on Tuesday night.

Dawson Brigman went 4-for-5 while Tony Boetto and Connor Henriques each had a pair of hits for the Broncos who racked up 12 hits on the night.  Brigman, Boetto along with Jake MacNichols drove in multiple runs with each of them coming after two outs.

Santa Clara (6-12) fended off an Oregon State rally in the ninth when the Beavers put the winning runs on base.  Facing Bronco closer Travis Howard, Garret Forrester led off the ninth with a home run to get the Beavers within one run, 10-9.  Howard walked the next two batters but got Andy Armstrong to pop up to third on a failed bunt attempt and struck out Jake Dukart and Kyler McMahan to close out the game and earn his fourth save of the season.

In a back and forth game that was knotted up at 7-all in the top of the fifth, Brigman drove in the go-ahead run plating Henriques against Beavers reliever Jaren Hunter (0-1) who took the loss.

Cole Kitchen (4-0) entered the game in the fourth and settled things down for the Bronco pitching staff gave up one run on three hits in his 3 2/3 innings of work to pick up the win.  Prior to Kitchen, the Broncos hurlers had allowed 11 base runners including four walks and two hit batsmen.

Oregon State (13-5) took advantage of those free passes to score four runs on just two hits in the bottom of the second to erase Santa Clara's 4-0 lead that they built in the opening inning.

With the Broncos trailing 5-4, Jake MacNichols hit a three-run home run in the fourth to regain the lead but the Beavers answered to tie it at 7-all in the home half of the inning.

The Broncos went 8-for 13 with runners in scoring position and had nine hits with two outs.
