Bronco Men's Basketball Team To Host SoCal Rivals

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's basketball team plays host to West Coast Conference-leading Pepperdine and resurgent Loyola Marymount Thursday and Saturday at the Leavey Center.

Thursday's Pepperdine contest tips-off at 7:30 p.m. and will feature "Take A Kid To The Game Night" in which all youth receive a special admission price when accompanied by an adult. Saturday's 3 p.m. contest against LMU will be televised by Fox Sports Net and will feature a halftime celebration of Santa Clara's recent national championship in women's soccer. The team will be honored at halftime and will be available for autographs following the game.

Santa Clara enters the game with a 7-10 overall record and 2-2 mark in the WCC following its 86-77 win at San Diego on Saturday. Sophomore guard Kyle Bailey scored a career-high 28 points and shot 6-of-9 from the field to lead the Broncos to their sixth win in the last eight games. The Broncos limited San Diego shooters to just 18 percent from beyond the three-point arc, while connecting on 45 percent from that range and 53.1 percent overall.

Pepperdine enters Thursday's game with an 11-6 overall record and perfect 4-0 mark in WCC games. The Waves currently own a six-game win streak, which includes victories over West Virginia, BYU and Gonzaga. First-year head coach Paul Westphal has the waves in sole possession of first-place in the WCC behind five scorers averaging in double figures. Terrance Johnson and Jimmy Miggins each lead the team with a 14.9 ppg average, while Miggins is the team's leading rebounder with an average of 7.3 per game.

Loyola Marymount enters a Thursday game at San Diego with a 9-9 overall record and 2-2 mark in WCC games. The Lions began the season winning five of their first eight games with wins over Texas A&M, UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State, among others. LMU began conference play with a loss at San Francisco before rebounding with wins over Saint Mary's and Portland. The Lions are led by the scoring and rebounding tandem of Greg Lakey and Andy Osborn, who combine to average 21.8 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. They are also responsible for 30 percent of their team's field goal attempts on the season.
