Santa Clara Announces Formation of Men's Basketball Radio Network

Oct. 4, 2001

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University men's basketball will enjoy the widest radio coverage area in its history this season due to broadcast agreements with KDIA-AM (1640 AM) in Vallejo and KSCU-FM (103.3 FM) in Santa Clara, Director of Athletics and Recreation Cheryl L. Levick announced today. In addition, Levick announced the contract of popular play-by-play announcer Dave Lewis has been extended through the 2002-2003 season.

Every Santa Clara men's basketball game will be broadcast on the Bronco Radio Network, which currently consists of 10,000-watt KDIA-AM, Santa Clara University campus station KSCU-FM and via the Internet on the athletic department's official athletic website at www.SantaClaraBroncos.com. The games will be engineered and distributed by KDIA-AM.

"We are pleased that we can provide our local and regional supporters with one of the largest radio coverage areas among the colleges in the Bay Area," said Levick. "By combining our radio coverage area with our Internet streaming agreement with Yahoo! Broadcast, we have the opportunity to showcase our men's basketball program to literally every Bronco parent, fan, recruit and alum."

Lewis enters his seventh season as the play-by-play announcer for Santa Clara University men's basketball. He will be accompanied by a color analyst from KSCU-FM at all home games this season as well as selected road contests. Lewis will also be involved in all advertising sales efforts for the network and will write an exclusive bi-monthly column which will appear on the Broncos' official athletic website at www.SantaClaraBroncos.com.

"Dave conveys incredible enthusiasm for Bronco basketball and his passion is obvious in listening to the broadcasts," said Levick. "He is energetic, loyal and well-prepared and I am confident our fans will continue to enjoy his description of our games."

KDIA-AM is a 10,000-watt commercial radio station located in Vallejo, Calif. that features a business, finance and technology format.

KSCU-FM is a non-commercial radio station affiliated with Santa Clara University that has served the Santa Clara local community for more than 50 years. The 20-watt station is operated by Santa Clara University students and features a varied format with an emphasis on independent music.
