Men's Basketball's Second Scrimmage Goes Well

Nov. 1, 2001

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's basketball team held another intersquad scrimmage on Wednesday night in another effort to move one step closer to being ready for the upcoming season.

The score was very lopsided on the night as the Red Team defeated the White Team by a score of 82-58. However, the score is somewhat misleading in that the players switched teams throughout the night.

Kyle Bailey had a very good outing after missing the first intersquad scrimmage with an ankle sprain, scoring 12 points to go along with 10 assists and nine rebounds. Justin Holbrook led the team in scoring with 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Holbrook scored his 19 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the floor.

Steve Ross had another good showing, scoring 18 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Ross went 7-for-14 from the field, including 4-of-10 from behind the three point line. David Emslie had 12 points on the night while Brian Vaka, Cord Anderson and Brad Anderson each chipped in 10.

The Broncos will play two exhibition games before starting the regular season on Saturday, November 17 at home against Pacific. Santa Clara will host the Olympic Club in its first exhibition game on Tuesday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Compaq Center at San Jose. The second exhibition game will take place in the Leavey Center on Monday, November 12 when the Broncos host Korabel, a club team from the Ukraine. Tip-off for the second exhibition game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
