Men's Golf Opens Spring Schedule

Up Next: Sacramento State Invitational
After three straight second-place finishes in the fall, the Santa Clara men's golf team will look for continued strong play when the spring season begins in March. Up first will be the Sacramento State Invitational, held March 12-13 in Sacramento. The event will take place at the Rancho Murieta Country Club, a par-72 course totaling 6,839 yards. Two rounds will be comopleted on Monday followed by the final round on Tuesday. Boise State, british Columbia, Cal Poly, CS Monterey Bay, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Iowa, CS Stanislaus, UC Davis and Washington State are scheduled to attend.

In the Rankings
Santa Clara is not ranked in the fifth edition of the MasterCard/Collegiate Golf Foundation's rankings, released March 7. The sixth set of rankings will be released March 14.

Melling Sinks Hole in One
Senior Michael Melling recorded a hole in one during the second round of the Farmer John Classic on Nov. 13. The tournament, hosted by Loyola Marymount in Ventura, Calif., featured a par-3 on the 14th hole.

Head Coach John Kennaday
John Kennaday (San Jose State '87) is in his third season as Santa Clara's head coach. A touring professional for six years, Kennaday was a member of the Canadian PGA Tour between 1992 and '94. He was also a member of the 1994 Nike Tour. Additionally, he was a member of the Golden State Tour for six years, between 1988-94. While a Spartan, he earned first team All-PCAA honors in 1986 and '87 and was named an All-American in 1987. Prior to San Jose State, Kennaday spent two years at Monterey Peninsula College, where he was a conference golf MVP in 1984 and `85.
