Princeton Invitational Preview
PRINCETON, N.J. – Patrick Kirk scored three times, and Luca Pagano, Ryan Werner, Blake D'Souza and Mac Carey tallied two goals apiece to lead Santa Clara men's water polo to a convincing 17-8 win over Johns Hopkins on the opening day of the Princeton Invitational.
Pagano also had three assists and a pair of field blocks, and Chase Zamborelli turned aside 15 shots in net for the Broncos in Friday's season opener.
Santa Clara scored five of the first six goals, but the Jays closed within 7-4 midway through the second quarter. However, Patrick Guinn and Dominick Kirk, a pair of true freshmen, answered with goals in the final 2 minutes of the opening half for the Broncos.
Johns Hopkins (1-4) was within 12-7 late in the third quarter, but the Broncos scored the next five goals.
Jake Taylor, Dominick Kirk and Shane Hughes each had two assists for Santa Clara, which is playing in this tournament for the fifth-straight season.
NOTES
• Ryan Werner, Patrick Kirk, Dominick Kirk, Arvin Bahia, Shane Hughes, Mac Carey and Chase Zamborelli started for Santa Clara.
• Jake Landrum, Blake D'Souza, Jake Taylor, Patrick Guinn, Ford Eldredge, Dominick Kirk and Zamborelli made their debuts for the Broncos.

The Broncos face George Washington and Fordham on Saturday, and Navy on Sunday.
