Late Goals by California Baptist Sinks Men’s Water Polo

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – PJ McDonough and Logan Mena each posted three goals, including one each late in the fourth quarter, to lift California Baptist to a 15-13 win over Santa Clara men's water polo on Thursday.

Angel Sanchez also had three goals for the Lancers (10-12, 2-2) who scored 4 of 6 times on the power play and got 14 saves from goaltender Gabe Thorne.

Adam Low scored three times and Patrick Kirk, Jack Rottman and Arvin Bahia each had two for the Broncos (8-9, 0-4) in the first of five straight games at home in a four-day span.

Neither team led by more than two in a Western Water Polo Association game that was tied 12 times.

Patrick Kirk's second goal knotted the game at 13-all with 17 seconds left in the third quarter, but the Broncos were unable to solve Thorne down the stretch who made four saves in the final period.

Just as an exclusion was expiring, McDonough scored the game-winner with 3:12 remaining on a feed from Sanchez and Mena added an insurance goal with 1:34 on the clock.

Mac Carey and Dominick Kirk each had three assists for the Broncos who went 3-for-7 with the extra attacker.

NOTES
Ryan Werner, Patrick Kirk, Adam Low, Jack Rottman, Shane Hughes, Mac Carey and Sean Tehaney started for the Broncos. Tehaney, who went the distance in net, posting eight saves. Low made his first-career start.
• Carey had three assists to continued his streak of posting at least one in each game this season.
Adam Low has 10 of his 17 goals this season in the last four games.

UP NEXT
The Broncos will play host to the three-day Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament beginning Friday. The event features 13 teams playing a total of 25 games at Santa Clara and San Jose State. The Broncos play twice on both Saturday and Sunday.
