Men’s Water Polo Splits Final Two Games

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Santa Clara men's water polo split its final two games of the season on Saturday, defeating Cuesta College, 18-11, after falling to San Jose State, 17-8.

The Broncos end an abbreviated season that was postponed from the fall to spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic with a 1-2 record.

Finn Pardon had four goals and six other players had two each to lead a balanced offensive attack for San Jose State in its win over the Broncos at SRAC Pool.

Ary Kaman had five assists for the Spartans who had an impressive 57 percent shooting percentage and cashed in on six of their eight chances with the man advantage.

Matt Somers and Billy Barry had goals two apiece for the Broncos.

San Jose State (3-6) pulled away with eight goals in third quarter.

A goal from Barry cut the deficit to 9-3 midway through the third, but the Spartans scored four times in the final 4:33.

Santa Clara had 11 chances with the extra attacker but were able to score twice.

Yahav Fire had seven blocks to earn the victory in net for San Jose State.

Matt Peterson tallied a career-high four goals and Chase Raisin added a career-best three to lead the Broncos to an 18-11 victory over Cuesta College in an exhibition contest at San Jose State's SRAC Pool.

Twelve Broncos scored including a pair from Cody Ferguson.

Dominick Kirk had a career-high five assists and Nicky Fontes a career-best three for the Broncos who had a 55 percent shooting percentage and scored on five of their 10 attempts on the power play.

Aleksa Sisakovic had four goals, including three in the opening quarter, for the Cougars (0-1) who got off to a strong start.

Sisakovic sparked Cuesta to a 5-2 lead in the first quarter before the Broncos took over with a run of six straight goals.

Ferguson's goal with 3:09 left in the second quarter extended the lead to 8-5.

Two straight goals from Raisin made it a 14-9 advantage for Santa Clara just 2 minutes into the fourth quarter.

Jacob Sill and Kiran Heidler each had two goals for Cuesta.

NOTES
Sean Tehaney and Chase Zamborelli split time in net. Tehaney played the opening two quarters in each game and Zamborelli in the final two.
Matt Peterson, Jake Taylor, Blake D'Souza, Chase Raisin, Dominick Kirk and Cody Ferguson started both games.
