Women's Basketball Takes On Portland Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball is set to host Portland Saturday at 2 p.m. in Santa Cruz.

Due to Santa Cruz County guidelines, spectators will not be permitted inside Kaiser Permanente Arena.

The Broncos fell to No. 20 Gonzaga Thursday to begin the week.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 46-32 all-time against Portland with the first meeting coming in 1986-87. Last season the Pilots won both meetings. Prior to that, the Broncos had a 12-game winning streak in the series.

THE BRONCOS

Santa Clara (7-5, 3-3 WCC) is scoring 62.2 points per game as a team on 40.2-percent shooting from the field and 33.0-percent from beyond the arc. The Broncos allow 60.8 ppg while forcing 18.2 turnovers per contest and collecting 9.9 steals per game.

Merle Wiehl scores 9.4 ppg with 5.3 rpg and Ashlee Maldonado leads the team with 3.6 assists per game.

THE PILOTS
Portland (7-4, 4-1 WCC) is scoring 67.5 ppg while allowing 67.6. The Pilots shoot 42.5-percent from the field and 34.3-perecent from downtown. They allow teams to shoot 45.7-percent from the floor,

Alex Fowler's 15.1 ppg is tops on the team, as are her 7.0 rpg. Haylee Andrews is scoring 13.4 ppg with 4.5 rpg and a team best 5.5 apg. Maddie Mulheim has hit a team leading 23 3-pointers and is averaging 8.4 ppg.
