Four Named All-WCC for Women's Basketball

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball had four players honored by the West Coast Conference for their play this year. The announcement comes two days before the start of the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas where the Broncos are the No. 4 seed.

Senior Merle Wiehl and junior Lindsey VanAllen landed on the second team with Ashley Hiraki making the All-Freshman team and senior Ashlyn Herlihy taking home honorable mention.

Wiehl is scoring 10.7 points per game with 5.2 rebounds per contest. She leads the team in 3-pointers made (37), as well as field goal percentage (52.1) and 3-point field goal percentage (43.5). Wiehl has four 20-plus points games this year and has scored in double figures in 12 of the last 15 games.

VanAllen leads the team in scoring with 12.4 ppg while adding 4.0 rpg. She also leads Santa Clara with 82 free throws made and 105 attempted. She has started and appeared all but one game this year. VanAllen was named to the all-freshman team in 2019.

Herlihy is the only Bronco to start every game this year or to average over 30 minutes per game (30.9) and leads the team in rebounding with 6.6 pg. She is second in scoring at 11.6 ppg. Earlier this season she became the 26th player in program history with 1,000 career points and is currently No. 13 with 1,142. This is her third straight honorable mention nod.

Hiraki has appeared in every game this year and started four. She is scoring 5.1 ppg with 1.6 assists per game. In the conference opener at San Diego, Hiraki hit the winning bucket with under 10 seconds left.
