Crew Competes in WIRA Championships

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's and women's crew will both compete at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships this weekend at Lake Natoma outside Sacramento, Calif.

The two-day regatta will consist of 47 races beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday morning and continuing to approximately 5 p.m. Sunday's competition which includes the grand finals for each event, will consist of 23 races beginning at 8 a.m.

The Bronco women's team, who will be competing in the WCC Championships the day before at Lake Natoma, will enter boats in the varsity four, the varsity eight and the second varsity eight.

Santa Clara's men's team will compete in the novice four, lightweight four, varsity four, novice eight and varsity eight. They will be coming off an informal meet with other WCC schools during the WCC Women's Rowing Championships Friday afternoon.

Following this event, the men will continue their season at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Penn., May 9-12. The Bronco women will join the men for their next event at the Pac-10 Championships on May 18-19 at Lake Natoma.
