Women's Crew Finishes Day One of WIRA Championships

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's crew had three boats participate in day one of the WIRA Championships Saturday morning at Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif., near Sacramento.

The women's varsity four began things for Santa Clara, finishing fifth in heat one of its class. As a result of its finish in the heat, the Broncos raced in the third tier final Saturday afternoon against six other teams. In the third tier final the Broncos crossed the line in a time of 8:39.9, winning the third tier final.

The second varsity eight raced in heat two of its class, crossing the line in a time of 7:25.0 and finishing third. As a result the Broncos will compete in the petite finals for the second varsity and race out of lane three at 10:20 a.m. Sunday morning.

The varsity eight competed in heat one and crossed the line in a time of 7:14.9, placing them third in their heat. As a result the Broncos will compete in the petite final of the varsity eights, rowing out of lane one at 11:20 a.m. on Sunday.

Following the completion of the WIRA Championships on Sunday, the Broncos will compete in the Pac-10 Championships May 18-19 at Lake Natoma.
