Men's Crew Completes Day Two of WIRA Championships

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's crew completed the second day of the WIRA Championships Sunday morning at Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif., just outside of Sacramento.

The novice four captured the grand final race at 8:30 Sunday morning, crossing the finish line in a time of 6:48.6, eight full seconds ahead of the next closest competitor, Puget Sound.

The novice lightweight four finished their grand final race in second place in a time of 7:10.0, just 3.4 seconds behind UC Santa Barbara.

The men's lightweight four finished fifth in their grand final race, crossing the finish line in a time of 7:03.6, with the winner, California, finishing in a time of 6:47.4.

The second varsity eight finished their grand final race in a time of 6:24.4, good enough for fourth place. Gonzaga won the second varsity eight race in a time of 6:17.4.

The men's varsity eight competed in the petite final Sunday morning and finished first in a time of 6:14.4, their best time of the season.

The Broncos will continue their season next weekend at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa. Following the Dad Vail, the Broncos will participate in the Pac-10 Championships May18-19 at Lake Natoma.
