Women's Golf Trails After First Day of Santa Clara Colby Classic

CARMEL, Calif. - Santa Clara University's women's golf team struggled through the first day of its own tournament Monday at the Rancho Caņada Golf Club in Carmel, Calif. The Broncos sit in 10th place following the first round but are looking to rebound in round two Tuesday morning.

Cal State Northridge sits atop the leaderboard after firing a day one total of 310. Sacramento State and Eastern Washington follows closely behind with scores of 316 and 317, respectively.

Santa Clara head coach Polly Schulze saw her team shoot a first round score of 351, eight shots behind the ninth place team, the University of British Columbia.

Kathy Pareja from Cal State Northridge leads all golfer after the first day with a score of 74. Tracy Nichols from Sacramento State sits alone in second place with a first round total of 75. Staci Davison of Cal Poly shot a 76, while Amy Wieber from Boise State and Kelly Gardner from Eastern Washington each shot a 77 to share fourth place.

Jessica Lamberty and Courtney Dimpel-Composti each shot rounds of 82 for the Broncos, while Caitlyn McNary fired an opening round 90. Kelly Wendorf shot a 97 to begin the tournament, while Jennifer Taylor rounded out the Bronco scoring with a 100.

The second and final round of the Santa Clara Colby Classic will begin just before 8 a.m. at the Rancho Caņada Golf Club Tuesday morning.
