EAGLE, Idaho - Santa Clara University's women's golf team finished up the first round of the Bronco Classic hosted by Boise State just three shots off a team record, firing a 314 at the Par-71 Banbury Golf Club in Eagle, Idaho.

The Broncos are playing in just their second tournament of the year, and have improved their team score in each round that they have played. Monday's round was very pleasing for head coach Polly Schulze as her team is right on track to accomplishing their team goals for the tournament.

"I am very pleased with the way we played today," said Schulze. "It was cold and the course was playing very tough, so for us to go out and shoot three shots over our team low was very encouraging."

Santa Clara, like in its first tournament, brought five freshman to compete in the two-day tournament. Jessica Lamberty fired the low round of the day for the Broncos, shooting a 4-over par 75 to finish the first day in a tie for 18th. Lamberty is only five shots off the lead heading into the final round on Tuesday.

Courtney Dimpel-Composti followed close behind, shooting a 7-over par 78, to finish day one in a tie for 46th. Jennifer Taylor sits in a tie for 52nd after shooting a 79, while Anne Bowden shot an 82 and sits in a tie for 68th. Kelly Wendorff rounded out the Bronco scores by firing a 96.

The Broncos will conlcude their play at the Par 71 Banbury Golf Club on Tuesday.
