Golf Concludes Play at WCC Championships

MADERA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's and women's golf teams concluded play at the West Coast Conference Championships Tuesday afternoon at the Riverbend Golf Course in Madera, Calif.

The women finished fifth while the men took home the eighth spot in the championship. Pepperdine took home the team championships in both the men's and women's divisions, claiming their fifth straight men's title while the women took home their fifth in the last six years.

Jessica Lamberty was the Broncos top finisher on the women's side, placing 15th with a score of 255 after Tuesday's 88. Courtney Dimpel-Composti was the next highest finisher for the Broncos, finishing 18th with a three-round total of 258.

Kelly Wendorff finished tied for 21st with a score of 264, while Jennifer Taylor finished 23rd and Caitlyn McNary finished 25th with scores of 268 and 290, respectively.

Jonathan Edwards was the top finisher for the Bronco men and the only Santa Clara player to shoot all three rounds in the 70's, finishing in a tie for 23rd with a score of 232. Sandy Horacek, Matt Klenz and Kevin Bric all finished tied for 28th with scores of 234, while Chris DeMartini rounded out the Santa Clara finishers with a score of 241, good enough for a tie for 38th.

While the WCC Championships was the final tournament for the women in 2002, the men will play in their final tournament this weekend, taking part in the U.S. Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Stanford University at the Stanford Golf Course.
