Women's Golf Participates in Food Drive

Nov. 3, 2004

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team has been an active member of the community with participation in two separate programs.

Last Saturday was National Make a Difference Day. With five members of the team in Hawaii for a competition, the Broncos celebrated in two different states.

Head coach Polly Schulze made arrangements prior to the team's departure to meet Hawaii Food Bank representative Lee Munson at the Kapolei Golf Course. The Broncos went grocery shopping earlier that morning and met Mr. Munson and his wife Beverly with four large bags full of canned goods for donation. The Hawaii Food Bank serves more than 10 percent of that state's population and Schulze said her team was very happy to be able to contribute to such a cause. She added that Mr. Munson expressed gratitude that an out-of-state program would be interested in helping residents of Hawaii.

The remaining members of the Bronco squad also went grocery shopping, and dropped food off at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara County.

"Although the team was not physically together for National Make a Difference Day, I feel that we were able to make the most of it and contribute in a very special way," Schulze said. "We feel a strong responsibility to give back to our community and I am proud of the team's efforts in helping those less fortunate than ourselves."

Santa Clara will also be hosting a Meet the Team Night at the San Jose Country Club this Friday evening, from 6-8 p.m. At this event, the Broncos will present a check to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Senior captain Courtney Dimpel-Composti will close out the evening with a speech about what it has meant to her to be a Bronco the past four seasons.

Food and drink will be provided at this free-of-charge event. For more details or questions, please click here for the original release. Phone calls are also welcome to Schulze at 408-554-5742.
