Softball Concludes Mustang Round Up with 1-0 Win over UCSB

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Santa Clara University softball team defeated UC Santa Barbara 1-0 to conclude weekend play at the Cal Poly Mustang Round Up at Bob Janssen Field in San Luis Obispo. With the victory, the Broncos improve to 5-4 on the season, while the Gauchos fall to 6-4.

Santa Clara broke a scoreless contest in the fifth inning. Senior outfielder Sydney Wiginton registered a two-out single and promptly stole second. Fellow senior Kristi Harrington's double brought in Wiginton for the only run of the day.

Wiginton also singled in the top of the third.

Freshman pitcher Kelley Johnson allowed seven hits while striking out three to earn her second win of the season.

The Broncos will return to action on Wednesday, when they visit UC Davis. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
