SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University softball head coach Marcy Crouch announced the signing of two Bay Area products to National Letters of Intent. Campbell's Jenny Brown and Shannon Linerud of San Jose, will be part of the Bronco class of 2006.
Brown, a 5-5 Player from Westmont High School, can play second base, utility infield and outfield. She was a three-year varsity starter on her prep softball and basketball teams and is a three-time All-Blossom Valley Athletic League team member for both sports. Brown played for the San Jose Lady Sharks Gold Travel team that placed ninth at the 18U Gold Nationals this past summer.
"Jenny will be an impact player for Santa Clara defensively as well as offensively," Crouch said. "Her passion for the game and mental toughness will make her an athlete that we can build around. I'm very excited to be able to work with Jenny through her college career."
Linerud, a 5-8 from Presentation High School, can also play multiple positions and has seen time at shortstop, pitcher and utility infielder. Like Brown, Linerud was a three-year varsity starter for her prep squad and has been named to the All-League team each season. She has also been twice named to the All-Central Coast Section team and was honored as her team's MVP while being recognized by the San Jose Mercury News as one of its Atheltes of the Week.
"Shannon will bring a tremendous amount to Santa Clara, athletically as well as academically," Crouch said. "She is an extremely hard worker on and off the field. Her naturally strong arm and with her work ethic will enable her to be a very successful Division I softball player."
Both Bronco signees are currently playing for the Strike Zone.
The Broncos open the season against Southwest Missouri State at the Cal Poly Tournament on February 8. The invitational will continue in San Luis Obispo through the weekend with Santa Clara also facing, Colorado State, host Cal Poly, Southern Utah and UC Santa Barbara.
