In the second game, the Broncos took the early lead over Boston. In the bottom of the second inning, Rachel Sherman singled to center starting Santa Clara's three run inning. Tracie Hall was then walked by Terrier pitcher DeKenya Williams. With runners on first and second, Jennifer Ponzo reached on a fielder's choice loading the bases. Roni Rivera then walked and Sherman scored the first run of the game. Deanna Rodriguez put the ball in play and also reached on a fielder's choice enabling the runners to advance and Hall to score. Up next, Lauren Fissori reached first on the third fielder's choice of the inning, but the Boston defense was able to make a play at the plate retiring Ponzo. With bases still loaded, Coresta Salas struck out recording the second out of the inning. Teammate Kristi Harrington picked her up, however, with a single to left field scoring Rivera before Rodriguez was tagged out at third.
The Terriers then produced two runs in the top of the third and one run in the second to tie the game 3 all. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the ninth when the Broncos edged out the winning run. Ponzo started the inning by being awarded first after a pitch hit her from Boston pitcher Julie Henneke. Andria Plasencia entered the game as a pinch runner for Ponzo. Rivera then placed a bunt towards the first base line and was able to beat out the throw moving Plasencia to second. Rodriguez then had a sacrifice bunt moving the runners to scoring position at second and third. Plasencia was able to score when the ball was put in play by Fissori, winning the game.
Santa Clara pitcher Rodriguez recorded the win for the Broncos improving her record to 4-5 as Boston pitcher DeKenya Williams took the loss for the Terriers.
In the first game, Santa Clara once again took the early lead over the Terriers in the bottom of the second. They produced their lone run of the game starting with a walk by Hall. Hall was able to reach second on a wild pitch by Boston pitcher Tiffany Finateri. Kelley Johnson then lined out to the pitcher bringing Rivera to the plate. Rivera reached first on an error by the pitcher. Both runners advanced on another wild pitch. Ponzo then grounded out to the second baseman allowing Hall to score and placing Rivera at third. The third out of the inning was recorded with Fissori's ground ball to the shortstop.
The Bronco defense held Boston scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when the Terriers tied the game. Boston then scored their winning run in the sixth inning leaving the score 2-1.
Finateri recorded the win for the Terriers as Santa Clara pitcher Johnson fell to 2-2 on the season.
The Broncos will return to action on March 8th, as they travel to Pleasanton, Calif. for the NIST Tournament. Their first game against Cal is slated to begin at noon.
