Shannon Linerud Tabbed PCSC Player of the Week

Seattle, Wash. - The Santa Clara softball team has gotten the new year off to a great start, with strong performances against Pacific and UC Davis this past weekend.  The Broncos also received news today that senior Shannon Linerud was named the first Pacific Coast Softball Conference Player of the Week of the 2006 season.  The 5-9 shortstop went 6-14 at the plate in four games, leading her team to a pair of victories against UC Davis on Sunday.

In the doubleheader series against the Tigers, Linerud went 3-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. In a dominating 13-3 victory over the Aggies, the local San Jose, Calif. native connected for a base hit, scoring one run and adding two RBIs. In Sunday's finale against UC Davis, Linerud hit 2-4 from the plate with one run scored. Along with her stellar offensive performance, Linerud anchored Santa Clara's defensive with a great performance out in the field.

Santa Clara's overall record in 2006 is 2-2 and returns to action this weekend at the Stanford Invitational, beginning on Friday. First up will be Birmingham-Southern at 9:30 a.m., followed by host Stanford at 1:30 p.m.
