Four Bronco Softball Players Honored by WCC; Scribner Named Defensive Player of the Year

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In the first season of West Coast Conference softball, Santa Clara has four players honored by the conference on the All-WCC Softball teams. Breezy Bernard, Stephanie Fisher, and Kelly Scribner all nabbed First Team honors while Ciara Gonzales was named to the Second Team. Scribner was also named the conference Defensive Player of the Year for her work at first base.

"Having four players honored in a tough WCC goes to show the hard work this team has put in," said Santa Clara head coach Lisa Mize. "They really bought into what we're doing to improve the program. Stephanie and Kelly really shined in their senior seasons and showed great leadership. Kelly's award is a great testament to her hard work. She made a lot of game-saving plays that don't show up on paper and a lot of the coaches around the league mentioned how good she was."

Fisher led Santa Clara with a .362 (50-138) batting average, good for fourth in the WCC. She also led the Broncos with a .594 slugging percentage, second in the conference, and a .399 on-base percentage while playing in every game. Fisher scored a team-high 22 runs and drove in 21. She hit six home runs, tow triples, and 10 doubles while swiping two bases.

Scribner was third on the Broncos in hitting with a .302 (38-126) batting averaged and third in the conference with a .571 slugging percentage. She led the team in walks with 13 and home runs with eight, good for third in the WCC. Scribner added 10 doubles, scored 16 runs, and drove in 19 while being the only Bronco to start every game. In the field she had a .992 fielding percentage in 394 total chances.

Bernard batted .310 (36-116) which was good for second on the team. She posted a .344 OBP while clubbing six doubles. Bernard scored six runs and drove in six.

Gonzales led Santa Clara in wins (5), ERA (3.25), appearances (38), games started (22), complete games (12), shutouts (2), saves (1), innings pitched (161.2), and strikeouts (36).
