Complete West Coast Conference Release
Excelling both in the classroom and on the court, Santa Clara senior Kayla Lommori was named to the 2012 West Coast Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team on Monday. Junior Katherine Douglas and sophomore Katy Schatzman were both named to the All-Academic Honorable Mention team.
"Academically I am proud of our three women that were named to the All-WCC Academic Team," said Bronco head coach Jon Wallace. "Our team and our program takes a lot of pride in our success in the classroom, as well as being good citizens by doing community service, including host the Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer. Santa Clara University does a great job of motivating our students to do well in the classroom to maximize their potential."
Lommori has a 3.56 GPA in Psychology. Lommori and Douglas are tied for fourth on the team with 223 kills, with Lommori collecting 2.10 kpg.
Douglas has a 3.22 GPA in Marketing. In addition to her 223 kills this season, Douglas is second on the team with 2.54 dpg and third in aces with 0.27 sapg.
Schatzman carries a 3.38 GPA in Business. Schatzman leads the team with 3.46 dpg and was named the MVP of the SIU-E Tournament.
The Broncos finished the regular season at 20-11 and 9-8 in the WCC, collecting fourth place in the league. Santa Clara, hoping to collect an NCAA tournament at-large berth when the announcements are made on Sun., Nov. 25, defeated both the teams on top of the league standings this year (won 3-2 vs. No. 14 BYU and won 3-2 at No. 16 San Diego) along with then-No. 18 Pepperdine, who finished tied for fifth.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
