Santa Clara Season Stats

Santa Clara, Calif. – On Bronco Senior Night in the Leavey Center, Santa Clara fell 3-0 Thursday night in West Coast Conference action to LMU.  Set scores were 18-25, 19-25 and 22-25.  Santa Clara is 20-10 and 9-6 in the West Coast Conference.  LMU is 18-11 and 8-7 in the WCC. 

The Broncos close out the regular season with a 1 pm match at Bay Area rival Saint Mary's on Saturday.

Santa Clara was led by Taylor Milton and Kayla Lommori, who both collected 10 kills.  Megan Anders and Haley Cameron had six kills each.  Alyssa Anderson and Chelsea Heier both had 17 assists. Katy Schatzman had nine digs.

LMU was led by Kathleen Luft who had 16 kills.  Litara Keil had 11 and Caitlin DeWitt had 12.  Hannah Tedrow had 42 assists and Betsi Metter had 11 digs. 

Santa Clara hit .214 with 40 kills (18 e, 103 att.).  The Broncos collected 39 assists, 33 digs, six service errors and eight team blocks.  LMU hit .347 with 48 kills (13 e, 104 att.).  The Lions collected 46 assists, 39 digs, six service aces, four service errors and nine team blocks. 

After Santa Clara scored the first three in the first set, LMU scored the next four.  SCU got a sideout on a kill by Schatzman and then LMU scored four more to take an 8-4 lead.  SCU scored two of the next three to pull within three, 9-6 LMU.  A service error by Heier made it 10-6 LMU.  Cameron's kill to the side gave SCU a sideout, but LMU came back with a kill.  Lommori's kill gave SCU the ball and a setting error made it 11-9 LMU.  A couple kills by the Lions made it 13-9.  The teams traded sideouts twice with LMU leading 15-11.  A tip by Anders gave SCU the ball again.  Santa Clara pulled within two on a kill by Milton off the block.  Down 19-15, Santa Clara called for time.  Milton's kill off the block quieted the Lions rally and a team block by Cameron and Milton got LMU head coach Tom Black off his feet for a timeout with the Lions up 19-17.  The Lions scored a couple on Bronco errors to pull ahead 21-17.  Williamson's kill off the block gave SCU the ball, but a kill off the block gave the Lions the ball back.  SCU called for its second timeout, down 23-18.  An ace by Litara Keil was followed by an LMU team block to give LMU the first set 25-18.  SCU hit .171 with 13 kills (7 e, 35 att.).  LMU hit .429 with 14 kills (2 e, 28 att.).  Milton had four kills and Kathleen Luift had five kills.

Milton's ace started the second set and after the Lions scored a kill, Douglas wacked it over for one of her own, 2-1 SCU.  The teams traded points before an ace by Hannah Tedrow tied it up 3-3.  A Douglas kill off the block tied it up 4-4.  LMU scored three of the next four points to go up 7-5.  Lommori smacked it off the block for a kill, but the Lions responded with a couple kills of their own and a Bronco error.  With LMU up 10-6, SCU called for time.   Cameron's kill to the back row stopped the run.  After the Lions scored, Anders put it down in the back row for a sideout.  The Lions scored a kill off a single blocker to go up 12-8.  A kill by Douglas and another by Lommori made it 12-10 LMU.  A kill by Anders on the slide and a team block by Douglas and Cameron brought SCU within one, 13-12 LMU.  A service error by Heier was met by a kill by Cameron.  After the Lions scored, Lommori's kill in the back row was followed by one by Caitlin DeWitt in the back row, 16-14 LMU.  Cameron's kill in the middle was followed by another kill by Felicia Arriola.  LMU scored a couple to go up 19-15.  Timeout Broncos. A couple of Bronco errors and a Lions service ace gave LMU a seven-point lead, 22-15.  An Anders kill and a team block by Anders and Douglas stopped the rally.  LMU scored two of the next three, with Douglas adding a kill between.  A team block by Douglas and Anders made it 24-19 LMU.  A hitting error by Lommori gave LMU the second set 25-19.  SCU hit .281 with 15 kills (6 e, 32 att.).  LMU hit .406 with 16 kills (3 e, 32 att.).  Lommori had four kills.  DeWitt had five for LMU.  

LMU started the third set off quick, running out to a 4-0 lead.  A team block by Cameron and Lommori ended the rally.  The team's traded points with Cameron's kill going off a Lion player's shoulder. Milton's attempt whistled off the block and hit the Lions floor for a kill before LMU passed it out of reach for another Bronco point.  The Broncos scored two of the next three, including a kill by Lommori.  LMU went up 12-8 on a couple of kills before Lommori's ball hit the back of the line for a kill.  Milton registered a cross court kill to pull SCU within two, 12-10 Lions.  LMU scored four of the next six to go up 16-12.  Timeout Broncos.   An Anders kill stopped the rally momentarily before DeWitt crushed it off the Bronco block.  A Douglas kill gave SCU the ball.  Lommori tipped the ball for a kill and then LMU called for time, up 17-16.  Anders and Douglas collected a team block after a Lions kill.  After a Lions sideout, Cameron crushed it to the back row for a kill.  Luft answered and Tedrow collected an ace, causing SCU to call for time, down 21-18.  DeWitt hit it out for a  Bronco point and then Cameron and Milton collected a team block when DeWitt smacked it straight into the Bronco block.  After Kenna Crouse smacked it out, LMU called for time with the teams tied 21-21.  LMU scored a couple on kills and then a team block to get match point at 24-21.  A kill by Milton off the block gave SCU a sideout.  A kill by LMU gave the Lions the match, 25-22.
