Bronco Volleyball Defeats Loyola Chicago

2012 Bronco Volleyball Stats

In its final match of the Stanford Invitational Saturday night, Santa Clara defeated Loyola Chicago in in three sets.  Set scores were 25-23, 25-20 and 25-21.  Santa Clara is 7-3 and Loyola Chicago is 5-5.

Santa Clara hit .197 with 45 kills (22 e, 117 att.). They collected 42 assists, five aces, five service errors, 55 digs and 4.5 team blocks.  Loyola hit .109 with 31 kills (19 e, 110 att.).  Loyola collected 26 assists, four aces, six service errors, 42 digs and 5.5 team blocks.

Megan Anders has 12 kills (5 e, 20 att.), hitting .350.  Haley Cameron had 12 kills, hitting .476 (2 e, 21 att.).  Lexi Williamson collected eight kills.  Taylor Milton had five kills with 13 digs.  Ali Rambis collected 12 digs.  Alyssa Anderson had 23 assists, two aces and seven digs.  Chelsea Heier had 15 assists and nine digs. 

Anna Eytchison had nine kills for Loyola and Kathleen Vogel collected seven.

In set one, the teams tied it up nine times before Loyola jumped out to an 18-13 lead and then went up 20-17 on a kill by Anders and an error by Laura Purcell.   A kill by Douglas and an attack error by Anders made it 22-20 Loyola.  Williamson's kill, a Loyola error and a team block by Cameron and Milton gave the Broncos a 23-22 lead.  Heier's ace made it set point Broncos and a block solo by Cameron gave the Broncos a 25-23 set one win.  Cameron had five kills.  SCU had 13 kills and six attack errors, hitting .171 in 41 attempts.  Loyola had 12 kills, 6 attack errors, hitting .136 in 44 attempts.

 In the second set the teams tied it up three times.  Santa Clara went up by three times, including 10-8 on an attack error by Loyola.  Anders kill made the lead three, 11-8.  A kill by Anna Eytchison brought the Ramblers within two again, but another hitting error made it 12-9 Broncos.  Bressler's kill and an Anders error made it 12-11, but Milton came back with a cross court kill  and Anders and Williamson collected a team block to make it 14-11 Broncos.  Timeout Loyola.  The Broncos scored six of the next seven points to take a 20-12 lead, including kills by Milton and Williamson and an ace by Heier.  Back-to-back Cameron kills made it 22-13 Broncos.  The Rambler's showed life, scoring three straight, 22-16 Broncos.  Timeout Santa Clara.  Loyola scored its fourth straight point out of the timeout on a kill by Purcell.  Heier smacked it for a kill to make it 23-17.  Loyola scored three straight to pull within three, 23-20 Broncos. Timeout SCU.  A Loyola service error and two Loyola hitting errors gave SCU a 25-20 set two win.  SCU hit .231 with 16 kills (7 e, 39 att.).  Loyola hit .069 with 8 kills (6 e, 29 att.). 

In the early going in set three, the teams were tied up four times before a Loyola attack error and Williamson kill made it 8-6 Broncos.  Williamson's ace pushed it to 10-7 Broncos. Timeout Loyola.  A kill by Loyola and a Bronco attack error brought the Ramblers within one, but Cameron's 10th kill, another by Anders and an attack error by Loyola made it 12-9 Broncos.  Loyola wouldn't quit – scoring two more to pull within one.  A kill by Douglas, an attack error by Eytchison and another by Anders made it 15-12 Broncos.  The Broncos scored six of the next 10 points to take a 21-16 lead, including the last three on a kill by Douglas and two Loyola attack errors.  Loyola added three points on two kills and a Bronco hitting error, 21-19 Broncos. Timeout Santa Clara.  A team block by Loyola and a kill by the Ramblers and it was 22-21 Broncos.  Anders 12th kill of the game made it 23-21 Broncos.  A kill by Lommori and attack error by Loyola gave Santa Clara a 25-21 set three win.  SCU hit .222 with 16 kills (8 e, 36 att.).  Loyola hit .108 with 11 kills (7 e, 37 att.).
